Clutch wise... what do you do at the end of the 1/4???
Another thing I have been wondering...
When you cross the line in 4th gear (T5/T56) at about 5200rpm or so..... what do you do?
Put the clutch in?
Engine break?
Shift to 5th in T5 or shift into 6th in T56 cases?
I have heard it is bad to just put the clutch in.... although that intuitivly makes sense to be the best thing for the car (tranny not in gear, engine not revving at all and gets a break, driveshaft not spinning) but I have heard that this is bad.

Engine BRAKE 'til about 3,000 RPM along with the assistance of the brakes, and then I put it in neutral.
I always tend to wind up taking the last turn off though...the civic I always wind up next to always takes the first.

I would never engine brake.....too much strain on the rear end....I run richmond gears which are stronger in the forward direction weaker in the backwards/coasting direction.
BTW the driveshaft does spin with the clutch in. It is directly attached to the rear end gears which are directly attached to the rear axles which are directly connected to the rear wheels (By directly I mean no clutch....and don't even get me on "technicalities w/ auburn rears and their cone clutch posi it still has both wheels connected unless there is a torque difference lol)
As far as what do *I* do? Nothing yet, just got my t-56 to replace the th700-r4. Logically thinking about it I will probably shift the trans into neutral and hold the clutch, drop down to second or third when its time to pull off the track....

what do you do when you need to stop fast on the highway? you step on the brakes....maybe downshift, engine brake whatever.....
in any case it doesnt really make all that much difference if you think about it. there are far worse stresses on your driveline before that point

There is a difference though, even the stock gears are made to be stronger in the forward direction.....Honestly if you want to reduce the damage, put it in neutral, step on the clutch, and brake it. No big deal really!

your not gonna brake your gears by letting off the acclerator to slow down. thats ridiculous. maybe if you were going 140mph with slicks on and downshifted to 2nd.
if your concerned, just upshift to 5th and coast or brake depending on how fast your going. you can let the car wind down in 4th without a problem. Even with richmond gears. If you've ever driven aggessively on the street or in autox they do it all the time.

I shift into 5th and then break. If I put it in N then the engine wants to die and I start to loose power breaks. So I like to keep it in gear.

i just let off the pedal in 4th and get into the brakes good, cause at NED the shut down area is not as long as they like to brag about. you gotta get into the brakes pretty good to make the turn. anyways not something thats really concerned me.
IMO, you should just put it in neutral, and do some breaking. Get her slowing down a little and then start down shifting. I mean if you think about it, i am sure most people have at least once, put it in second a little to soon (you know going to fast to be putting it in second) and ended up locking up the rear, i know i have and you don't have to be going all that fast either.
