Used T56 condition?

I'm going to be picking up a T56 setup out of a 95 Camaro. It also has a Centerforce clutch.

Generally in what kind of condition are these things? I don't want to put it in the car and have to take it out too soon after. What is usually worn out? I'm going to open it up before buying it to check, just wanted to know what I should look for.

cags shouldnt matter unless you are running this behind an LT1 WITH the LT1 pcm. your stock 3rd gen ecm has no idea cags is there and will ignore it. youll be fine, trust me , ive done it.

good luck !

yeah, I know. The 4th gear synchro is worn more than the rest because of CAGS in the previous car.

make sure the output shaft turns when you have it in all gears and you turn the input shaft.

Computer Aided Gear Select...
under certain conditions (ie "economical driving") the CAGS system will activate solenoids which will close gates to keep you from shifting into 2nd or 3rd gear. it forces you to go from 1st to 4th. it was done for EPA/gas mileage stuff. easily overcome by using a CAGS eliminator (but not needed unless you have the 4th gen computer in the car as well)

all 4th gen M6 cars had this, as well as corvettes, i believe.

Oh I did the swap 3-4 weeks ago now. What that web page didn't mention is that the VSS connector is different and that you should get it from the donor car unless you want to go to all the parts stores and order the wrong one a million times and then finally go to the dealer and pay their crazy jacked-up prices.

A little tip on the VSS connector is to use a coolant temp sender plug of a thirgen (v6 or v8) or any other GM 80's model. It's the same plug (Easily swiped from the j-yard )

T56 Conversion in a 700R4 Camaro

I own a '88 IROC-Z and it had a 700R4 in it. I took it out a couple months back. Im putting a T56 into it as soon as I get one. I am in the process of removing the interior for the conversion to, all I have left os the center console & the carpet.

I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of doing this swap, actually what I need is a picture of where to cut the hole,in the floor? Or are there markings already?

from what ive read, you only have to extend the existing hole back two inches, but i may be wrong

he had an auto to start with, no hole there. i just measured my tranny from the bellhousing to the shifter, than measured that same distance from the engine block to back and made a mark at that distance and started cutting away. worked perfect.
