little/no gas=trany prob?
Im realy hoping this was my problem this evening. my gas gauge doesnt work. so I have never driven more than 200 miles b4 filling up. well this evening I decided to go past 200 miles, and what a mistake.
About 2 miles from where I live(I was on my way home btw) I came apawn a car doing 40mph in a 60mph zone. when he pulled over to the side of the road so I could pass I floored it but insted of the car getting a little get up and go the engine just reved up to 7000 rpm(Im guessing my gauge is off a bit) it did not feel like the transmission shifted thoe is the wierd thing. so I let off the gas and just gave it enough for crusing speeds and the car did fine. I get to the aria I live and decided to try the 1-2 back to 1 shift chang to make sure the trany is shifting right. well once the trany shifted to 2nd gear I floored it but insted of shifting back to 1st the car stalled out and wouldnt restart.
so I push the car 1/4 mile home and put a couple gallons of gas for my lawn mower in the car and it starts right up thankfully, but what Im wondering is if the car reving up when I went to pass that guy is possably do to being out of gas or is it a sign of a trany problem?
BTW the trany is a 700r4

The only way you will know for sure is to go out and drive it, but its possible that the low fuel pressure made it do that.
The older Vortec engines w/ poppet nozzles were notorious for doing that very thing when the filter was plugged. You have no idea how many suburbans with "slipping in passing gear" concerns I fixed with a fuel filter. You get the dumbest look when you tell them thats all it was. Good luck.
