flywheel question 305

Im having some trouble with my 85 camaro. I had built a 355 with a roller and it ran strong but I just broke a connecting rod so i dont have a car. I am 16, dont have any money and need to get to work. A friend at the local junkyard can give me a 4barrel 305. I wanted to know if i could use the flywheel from my 72 350 thats in it now. Do they have the same bolt pattern? I havent pulled my motor out yet. All or my parts have less than 2500 miles on them so i want to use my pressure plate and clutch again at least untili get another motor built.

Thanks, Dave

as long as the 305 has a two piece rear seal it will match up fine.

Ok I looked at the 305 again and it has a 2 peice rear seal. I think the end of the crank is the same. I have one more question though. Will i have any problems as a result of the dip stick being on the passenger side rather than the drivers side? Will the dipstick interfere with my headers, They are for an 82-92 camaro V8. The motor is not specified. They are from hedman and worked fine with the 350.

Thanks a bunch

Dave

It had a flex plate on it because it came out of an automatic, I was going to put my flywheel on it anyways because my car is standard. I will be able to use my starter and clutch and pressure plate.

if you are using the flywheel off you 355 why would you have a problem with the clutch?

Your dipstick should not be a problem with headers. The dipstick
location could cause problems if you were using factory exhaust manifolds. Lucky you!

Maybe I was misunderstood. I thought i might have problems bolting my flywheel to the 305 crank because some are not the same. Somthing like a metric style and a standard style. I found out that you can tell which is which by what rear main seal the motor has. Both motors have a 2 piece seal so i am all set.

Thanks again guys.
