the output housings are able to be changed but you can take the housing off, and put the gears for mechanical speedo in and us the output housing you took off, but you can change the whole thing

Something comes to mind in this speedo swap about lube provisions for the speedo gear. I may be mistaken, (I'll have to look this up if I can remember it tomorrow) but there is an orific near the govenor shaft boss that squirts lube oil at the speedo gear assembly. On the later 700R4's with the VSS/(edit)reluctor, this orifice is either blocked off with a plug or not there.
There could be a lube problem down the road with this conversion, and result in premature wear on the speedo parts.
Anybody else recall this issue?

(edited to reflect vss/reluctor)

No, I do not.

But the tailhousing for a 1983 Z28 is serviced with the same PN as one for a 1992 Z28.

please say it can be swapped without remving output shaft !
thanks for anything at all!!!!
Yes!

Instead of the VSS assy./driven gear, you need a speedo gear sleeve and driven gear.

i kinda forgot to mention i am converting an 83 700r4 to VSS so it wil work in 92 that does have VSS

i have found out that i have to press the VSS "gear" off the 92 output shaft and press it onto the 83 one somehow

thanks
