old 350 trans

i just did a motor and trans swap a few days ago and i switched from the 700r4 trans to the 350 that was on the motor i swapped in. the shifter linkage and other things hooked up fine. the problem is my drive shaft is too short and the driveshaft off of the chevelle that had the trans in it is too long. the guy said its a 75 chevelle(did they make those in that year?). my question is, could i find a driveshaft just long enough at a junkyard? or is there some kinda extension i could put on the trans to make my old driveshaft fit? he said something about a longer yoke. where could i get one of these? and how much?

Take the Chevelle one to a drive shaft shop and have it shortened.

If you can't find a shop listed that way in your area, call around to places that work on big trucks (18-wheelers and bigger).

Why wouldnt you just take the tail off of the 700r4 and put it onto the th350 and use the 700r4's driveshaft....

as RBL3869 said, have it shortened. I just did the same thing to my 87 TA,,,, swapped motor and trans. from an 89 chevy mailbu. I went to a local mechanic that fixed mine. Worked great! Good Luck!

how much was it to have it shortened? money is kinda tight, really need to start saving. if i cant find one off of a th-200 trans then looks like it will have to be mechanic.

I just did this swap... Had to take the driveshaft and get it shortened 3inches... which still ended up having to be shortened again another inch.. but I used a driveshaft outta 78 camaro....same place I got the donor tranny...so far only problems im hacing is the torque arm mount and the speedo is off by about 20mph... lol.. but nothin to shake a stick at... easy fix..lol.. GOOD LUCK!

It cost me $50 but I know the mechanic pretty well and hes done most of my work. Dont know if that made a difference or not but from what I have heard its between there and $75 around where I live.

Well, considering that if the junkyard knows what it is, that 200C shaft will cost you $100 or more, I'd say $75 is cheap.

That's why it's the best thing to do. Skip all that other monkey-motion and go directly to the solution.

longtail tranny in chevelle is not correct for it, is out of truck or old full size car.

you need shorty tranny or find a local welder guy to cut down your shaft for about 30 bucks tops.
