B&W 9 bolt vs Saginaw 10 Bolt

Several people claim that the 9 bolt B&W is superior to the 10 Bolt Saginaw rear axel. It is subposedly stronger I know that the 9 bolt is 7.75" Carrier vs 7.50"/7.625" Carrier for the Sag.

I guess I need to ask who here has blown up each, and is there substantial evidence that the B&W is so much better??? And if it was so great why did GM drop it in 1990 and go to the 10 Bolt Saginaw up until the demise of the f-bodies in 2002???

The reason GM dropped it was COST not that it was a poor performer.

Is that the manufacturing cost, repair cost, or both?

So are repair parts for the 9 bolt significantly more expensive than the 10 bolt? Currently considering swaping a 9 bolt disk in for my 10 bolt drum.

I replaced my drum 10-bolt with a 1989 BW 9-bolt to get the big disc rear brakes that worked. Unless you do something dumb or abuse the 9-bolt it will not let you down. Yes the parts are more expensive, but if you don't break it why worry.

although I havn't been around here much lately, I still sell shims to tighten the 9bolt posi. It's the cheapest and most effective way to get that posi working again.
