help or hurt my 700r4?

ive had the car a year, and i dont know if and when the last time the transmission fluid has been changed. it has 164k on it, but the transmission has had some work done,(i have the papers to prove it, bout 50k ago, so yeah, i guess it was changed then....) it shifts good , im not having any problems, but the fluid it getting dark, but doesnt smell burnt, would it be worth the fluid and filter change,? and how does a fluid change hurt the transmission? thank you for your awnsers

The fluid change can only help. If it has been 50k miles and it is looking dark, I would change the fluid and filter. I would go ahead and put a drain plug on the pan for next time also.

another good idea is to put a large magnet in the transmission pan when you get it out, if it dosnt already have one. Be sure to clean the pan up real well too.

it helps filter out and metal shavings or particles in the system.

Put one on that you have to grunt to take off.

Most of our cars already came from the factory with a magnet in the pan.

i've taken quite a few thrid gen trans pans down, some seem to have them, some dont. dosnt really seem to be any ryme or reason to it.

One time the neighbor kid came over holding a big circle magnet "Look what i found in my transmission pan! Jesus, no wonder it isnt working right".
