700r4 question

i have a 90 firebird with a v6 and 700r4 tranni im puttin in a 305 but tryin to keep the transmission i already know i gotta drill and tap new holes, what else needs to be done, anything?

I'm not even so sure you can do that. I believe the bellhousing is different. You will probably need a new tranmission.

not shure what holes u are talking about but it sould bolt right up gm did use a babybell housing on some v6's but i think they were moslty in s-10's if it is a babybell it wont work

i herd that the bolt pattern connecting to the engine is different, but your saying if its a babybell that it wont work, wow would i tell if it is or not

if it is a babybell ul know they are a much smaller diamater.the bolt patern looks the same its just smaller

so what your sayin is that if it isnt a babybell housing it will bolt right up to a 305 even though the trasnmission was originally connected to a v6?

Your 3.1L V6 has a 60° bellhousing and in no way, shape, or form will it bolt to the 305. V8's require a 90° bellhousing. If your swapping from a 60° engine to a 90° engine, you must also get a 90° transmission.

any tranny from a 4.3L to a 350 will work, and if you are into cornering more then straight line acceleration, I suggest a diesel torque converter if you wanna keep it cheap.( im serious, we do that all the time in roundy round cars at the tranny shop I work for.
