so what your sayin is that if it isnt a babybell housing it will bolt right up to a 305 even though the trasnmission was originally connected to a v6?

Car: Take
Engine: Your
Transmission: Pick
Your 3.1L V6 has a 60° bellhousing and in no way, shape, or form will it bolt to the 305. V8's require a 90° bellhousing. If your swapping from a 60° engine to a 90° engine, you must also get a 90° transmission.

any tranny from a 4.3L to a 350 will work, and if you are into cornering more then straight line acceleration, I suggest a diesel torque converter if you wanna keep it cheap.( im serious, we do that all the time in roundy round cars at the tranny shop I work for.
