Broken tranny mount-pics!!!

Finally got around to checking the tranny mount just to be sure the bad clunking coming from the rear of the car was what I thought. Yup, the usual. GMs crappy rubber trans mount. I basically knew it was this because I was starting to feel the shifter move up and down. It is 100 times better now, I can step on the gas with confidence and no loud clunks. Swapped in an Energy trans mount.

I assume this is how they usually break. Nothing out of the ordinary here, huh?

common, the bigger cars and the trucks use two bolt mounts instead of these single stud ones,

mine is busted in my 81 pickup. i can feel tranny come back down every time i let off gas when am accelrating in gear forward.

ill fix it one of these days, i have several good mounts laying around, but well time is worth to you alot during the good weather months... so you tend to do more importan things first and put off simpel things for later on and hope the simple things dont turn into hard things to do later

That doesnt look like the stock mount to me. The original ones in both my cars are rectangular. My brothers friend changed his in his 87 gta. From the get-go his trans sounded like the mount was broke right after he put it in. I think it was made by Borg Warner. I gave him my old one after i upgraded to a poly mount. The car never made that sound again. He found out later that the mount was for V-6's. Dont know how much truth there is to it.

BTW, the mount he put in looked exactly like the one you have there, except new. It was very mushy to the touch, it felt like a nerf ball. And that was new.

91, it very well could be the borg-warner you mention. I only got the car 2 years ago. So no telling what happened before that. As far as it being real spongey, I can't really tell because of the fact that it is in two pieces. I was expecting it to look like the replacement part though. Like you mentioned, the new one is rectangular and the busted one is more roundish.

thats probably a good thing. The one for my 1990 350 is rectangular the new one should last you a long long time.

Mine looked exactly like that. Only I couldn't tell that it had broken until the second time I looked at it and actually lifted the tranny towards the body of the car and then I was able to see that it had separated. Cost 56 bones at the dealer for a new one. I hadn't noticed that Energy Suspension also had them for a little cheaper.
So.....I go on the highway after the repair, goosing the engine a little to get the feel of the new mount.....and passed a Washington State Trooper on the side of the road with a pulled over car. I thought he missed me as his view was blocked by a truck that I was passing. Negs,....was on me in a heartbeat. Asked me how fast I was going. I said "78" and I was testing a new tranny mount. He just said "slow down!", jumped in his car and was gone.
