Which tranny to go with?
Im planning on doing a V-8 swap in the future, but don't know what im going to get yet. Im leaning towards an LT1, actually came close to actually getting one a month back. However, my question is, what are the advantages and disadvantages of getting either a T-56 or TKO?
I already have a T-5 in the car. I know that the T-56 uses a whole new hydraulic system and the clutches are more expensive, but I have no info whatsoever about the Tremek TKO?
Thanks.

Car: for now my Jeep while im building my Camaro
Engine: building a 350 with about 440HP and 450lb
Transmission: W.C. T-5 dont know how it will hold up..
finaly I get to share my information with someone. like you I too had this delima. well my friend you dont have to go with either. there is a company called g-force and they make a kit for the T-5 to make it handle up to 600HP easily and i have only heard good things about the kit. it comes complete with everything you need for $1000. thats way cheaper than a TKO or to get a T-56 to FIT in your car. hope this helps. by the way if you do go with the TKO it will hold up jus fine to jus about ne thing you can throw at it and you can get it fomr somewhere dont the link now. but they sell the TKO and everything you need to get it into your car if your willing to spend $2500 minimum.

I am aware of the G-force kit for our T-5's but my dilemma is if I go with say an LS1, I don't believe the T5 can ever bolt up to it, unless a custom bellhousing is made, if that. I know the T-56 is the way to go, but I really don't want to mess with my hydraulics. Can the TKO use a T-56 bellhousing?
I have no info what so ever about the TKO or even the TKO II. All I know is it sits a little lower and the stock shifter will bang the in first, third and fifth.
Thanks again.

Also want to mention the T-5 rattles quite a bit, not sure if the g-force kit fixes this, but I heard the TKO is nice and solid.

That is VERY interesting
I am going to remeber that, my T-5 like most is a pile, and I am throwing a 383 in her soon, and was looking into a T-56, I may go down that route.OK new question to add, what is a clutch for a T-5 that will hold lets say 550 horse

So will a TKO fit a LS1 block? Or is there is a conversion bellhousing to do so? Or am I forced to use a T-56 if I want a manual if I go with the LS1 swap?

Do not really know if you can make a TKO hook up to an LS1. I know you will not be able to get a TKO set up for a standard Chevy to use a T-56 bellhousing. Different length input shafts.
Let add some additional food for thought: if you decide to use a T-56 tranny, know for certain if you are going to use an LT1 or an LS1 before you buy the tranny. The two engines use different bellhousings. The bellhousings have different bolt patterns and are different depths, thus requiring different versions of the T-56.
The LT-1 tranny won't bolt to an LS1 bellhousing and vice versa. And it is not simply a matter of changing input shafts. So make sure you buy the whole setup.
Fortes transmissions or performance (memory fails me) sells TKO's for Chevy Third-gen applications. You may want to do a web search and talk to them if you have your heart set on using one.
