700r4 click when put in park

Car is a 92 RS with a 305 tbi/700r4 combo. After I drive the car, stop, and put the car in park there is a clicking sound after the shifter is placed in P. What could it be?

I have an 88 700 r4 in my camaro, and a 94 GMC pickup with the same tranny and they both make that clicking sound. I'm going to say it is normal. If your torque converter was blown, you would definatley know it.

it didnt use to do it until just the past couple months. The tranny still shifts just fine and nothing else apears to be wrong. If it's not the torque converter what could it be? Is this a sign of my tranny about to blow?

If it is, then I'm going to need 2 of them. If you are really worried about it, have it checked out. And then get back to me so I know what i'm in for. lol

If it does the click after you put it in park and let go of the brake, it could be the car falling back againsed the parking pin in the transmission. my buddy's 89 IROC with 25,000 miles does it, all three I had in my 85 did that, and my current 87 with 69,000 miles does it.

That's exactly what it does. The only problem is it never did it until just recently. Wierd.

yeah, I *think* what happens is that if you ever put it in park while you are still slowly moving, or if you park on enough steep inclines it can stretch or put a slight bend in the parking pin. It leaves some play in there, which is the click.

I do have a pretty limited understanding of the internals of the automatic, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is completely wrong

Take care,
Matt
