they dont shift smooth at all.....although the tranny is made to do so, its no fun banging into every gear on the street forever....my brother has a straight tooth 4 speed in his 86, its pretty vicious

I thought shifting was suppose to be smooth with straight cut. Thats why I want one so I can do speed shift/tap-o-the clutch shifting.
What kind of 4 speed has straight cut gears?

they are good for speed shifting....but speed shifting isnt smooth....its a really hard hit....thats why you need straight cut gears, cause they mesh faster and are stronger.

the spitfire has a straight cut first gear with no syncros.. PITA at times...

really though, i dont see any need for them unless you need the strength..

if you have to shift any faster then you can shift a T56, you need a Lenco or somthing.... lol..

Are we talking about an close ratio Muncie M22? If this is the transmission, the straight cut cut gears have to do with the pitch of the gear contact area, and nothing to do at all with the shifting (syncros). There is very little (if any) advantage to straight cut gears from my experience, and the noise gets old quick on the street.

I did dome more research and talked to a local that had a tranny with dog ring gears for road racing and he said you ahve to shift hem fast or the dog rings wear out. They need to engage right away no easy shifting. Imagine light to light stop and go banging every gear.

Are these any good? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2444210011

Jerico and Tex Racing are two companies that make straight-cut gear transmissions. I'm sure you've heard of Jerico, if not, well they make the best transmissions you can buy in my opinion.
