How can u tell what kind of tansmission you have?

Car: 1989 Iroc-z 1994 Z28 LT1
Engine: 5.7 Liter L98 Tuned Port Injection 5.7 LT1
Transmission: 700R4 and 4L60E
How can u tell what kind of tansmission you have?

I was just curious on seeing what kind of transmission I have on my 89 iroc-z for sure it has a 350 L98 tpi motor.

Unless it's been changed, you have a 700R4. The only other auto transmission avalible for the V8 3rd gens was a 200c which came in 82 and maybe 83 only.

th350 never came factory in thirdgens. The 2004r was the 3 speed that came in the 82 models. Then it switched to the overdrive 700r4. If you have 4 speeds there is a 99.9999% chance you have a 700r4. If its a 3 speed its probably a th350 that someone has installed in a 700r4s place. Because the 700r4 is what your car came with factory. 100% sure on that one.

There was never a 2004R in the 82. The 82 had the TH200c which was a 3 speed with converter lockup. The 2004R is a 4 speed overdrive tranny. The only other auto transmission asside from the 200c would have been the 700R4

My bad....I was close. I knew 82 models had some other type of transmission. Oh well I was corrected.

BTW Ant...did you figure out what you have?
