Mustang T5... in Camaro?

Mustang T5 trannies (even the WC ones) seem to run a whole hell of a lot cheaper than 3rd gen ones. Possible to swap in?

My transmission has shat the bed, and I need to find something cheap, fast!

Some Jeeps used T5 tannies as well... is that a possible swap?

No on both, Rustang is different bell housing pattern, input/output shaft different, ect. Jeep is a (truck) T-5, bell housing different shifter location different, ties up to a transfer case at the back and theres no place for your speed sensor or cable since the hole is on the trasnsfer case. I think the input shaft is the same spline though.

What about the innards? Could I buy a cheap crustang T5 and transfer over the insides?

Internal parts are different too. I think the syncros are the same but I'm not 100% on that, even if they were thats not going to help the cause.

What I would do if I were you is look in the Classified adds evne the ones on this site for a T5. I found an entire car for my conversion dirt cheap in the local paper. It had no engine but everything else was there including a 9 bolt disk setup, all for a mere $400.

The Jeep T5s aren't World Class anyway, so you wouldn't want to use them.

What's wrong with the T5 you have? Parts for them are not very expensive. Try Hanlon Motorsports. They have complete rebuild kits for about $180. Individual gears are typically about $60, so it may be cheaper just to rebuid your trans rather than buy another one.

BTW, I can walk you through the rebuild if you need it. I've done 3 already, so its like old hat for me.

Is it not that hard??? When the original one went in mine at 204,000 I had a hell of a time even getting access to anything.
I think I ended up fishing out the broken pieces of of the drain hole. Never did get anything open enough to see what broke. I tore and unbolted everything I could see.

Good used ones go for $100-$125 around me. Might be worth while to rebuild one. Give me another 200,000 miles before I gotta think about it again.

You will have to pull the transmission and completely disassemble it to determine what parts you will need. It's kind of a pain and increases the down time of the vehicle, but it's the only way to really get it right.

Basically the front half of the trans unbolts, as does the rear bearing retainer. You will need a good set of inside and outside snap ring pliers to do the rest, because there are no other bolts to remove. Hanlon sells a good service manual that covers everything in great detail. It has exploded views and everything.
