How in the hell do I remove the old unit in the differential?
I got the axel tubes out of my rear end and can't figure out how to take the old unit out, I see bolts next to the splines but can't get them off because I can't lock the rear and my impact hammer can't get them off, how in the hell can I get that old unit off so i can put the new posi in? Thanks.

Two bearing caps, two bolts each. The old diff should almost fall then.

Where they at bud? Trying to get this done before the super bowl.
Only thing I have removed is the axel shafts and of course the differential cover.

right infront of your face.
Once the cover is off there is two caps (cap)>{ gear }<(cap) they have two bolts a peice. Remove them and the ring gear/carrier will nearly drop out.

Trying to find a pic, but to no avail...
They look like engine main bearing caps, and sit up-and-down at each end of the carrier. The bolts have like a 3/4" head on them.

And if you're going to re-use the ring gear, those bolts are left-hand thread...clockwise to remove.
You do know how to set the backlash correctly when installing a new carrier, right?

I got those off bro, its just sitting in there gutless, I can't get it out, seems stuck. I don't have to remove anything else but the axel shafts right?

Use a heal bar or a small crow bar. A little force and it pops out. Just make sure to note which shims were on which side and which way they were facing.
Edit: even a nice sized screw driver behind one of those ring gear bolts on the drivers side will pop it out easy.
