auto to a 6 speed....is it hard?
My red RS is ready to fly, and she is asking for a 350 engine, and my question is it hard to make a AUTO 4 speed to a 6 speed t56 trany or how about a 700r4 tranny?
I switch tranmissions before but never play with manual tranmission or clutches.

harder than switching out autos with other autos.....but not too bad, no. if you're fairly handy with tools, and had a day or two, you could do it. fbody motorsports has an awesome article on it, and they sell a crossmember to fit the t-56. I would use Spohn's crossmember, because it moves the torque arme off the tranny, and allows you to have a driveshaft loop all in one package. also, read the sticky at the top of this forum, and then do a search on here. this question and the ones that follow have been answered before, so you should find a wealth of info at your disposal.
the main thing to remember is to get as much as you can from the donor car. and look for a tranny from a 93-97 f-body. L8r man.

I found nothing about the swap overtly difficult. Basically it is a bolt in that requires a few specialized parts. Skulte's article is the best one I saw on the web concerning the swap. I used his crossmember too. It fit like a glove.

Do you want fuel injected or carbed? I have very little money in my motor. Just a regular old 4 bolt main truck block with heads intake and cam and exhuast. Dynoed @ 316 hp and 385 ft/lb of torque. Plus a better cam and some nice heads are in its future.

Goodwrench 350 shortblock with Vortec heads and a 268 Extreem Energy cam. You'll have to go carb, unless you already have EFI (even then you need a special lower intake that is $400 by itself to work with the Vortecs). For a carb motor this is a great combo that can be done for about $2,000 if you reuse all you old stuff like oil pan, timing cover, ect.
Another option if you have EFI would be to use a Goodwrench crate motor long block. The EFI should bolt right up, unless you've got a post '87 intake. I'd mill the heads or use a steel shim head gasket to get some compression back, and use the same Comp Cams cam mentioned above.

Summit Racing is selling GM crate motors. Go to www.summitracing.com
Scogin Dickey is another great source. Not 100 % sure of the website.
BTW, you can get a GM 350 crate long block rated at 330HP for $2,300. Might be a better starting place than the Goodwrench.
