Check out SLP "take out" Posi unit!
This bad boy doesnt even look used! It looks brand new.....The bearing on it have no build up of rearend grease, niether does the unit itself......Came with eveything in the picture on thier site.
I have read on this site that SLP takes weeks to ship, I ordered mine on late Monday and received it today UPS.
I got the bearing kit and it doesnt even look like I need the carrier bearing. Should I replace them anyways?
I went to GM today and out of curiousty asked them how much they would charge me to set the rear up...their price was 3 hrs labor came out to $171.00 said it could take less since I have everything and the rear in not in the car....I told them I would just drive it up on the back of my truck...said they could do it anytime next week..
Is that a good price?

the reason it looks so good is becuz SLP pulls them at there shop and puts in a Heavyduty posi in the firehawks and ss's. the "take off" posi's have maybe like 10 miles on them at the most.

The rear end thats in my car now is a factory posi unit with the 2.73's
I bought a used rearend open out of a 90 RS to get the 28 spline axles...so yeah they will be converting the open rear to posi...but Ive removed the open unit out of the rear so its gutted..alls they would have to do is set the SLP unit in and shim the 3.42 ring and pinion...and then I can do the rest with sticking in the axles and then pulling my rear out and putting this rear in...
So that shouldnt be to much work for them, huh?

The SLP just looks more solid than my 87 posi unit....mine has springs in it and this one doesnt.....plus the axle lock bolt is different than mine too. I guess thats just 10 years of technology at its best...
Im sure this unit will perform WAY better than mine..!
Heres my 2.73 87 posi.

a quick question about the ring gear fittment on the SLP posi...
Should it just slide on and bottom out with no force at all or should the bolts be used to draw it up tight to the posi unit?
Reason Im asking is cause when I went to slide the ring gear on it didnt go on all the way...like the diameter of the ring gear is smaller than the carrier ....the ring says 7.5/8 on it..
Its doesnt say GM on the gear like the 3.23 ring does.
I got it from www.tacreationusa.com so im sure its a GM gear.

I found someone to do it for $100 or less he said tht he would do it in his spare time if I can leave at his shop for about 3 days.
He said $100 just to keep it on the safe side but will probably be lower than that. He was working on a 396 Chevelle getting ready to take the 12 bolt rearend and change the 3.73's down to 3.08's
Pretty good guy!....Most places except for GM wouldnt touch it cause I have already taken everything out but I kept it organized in the order it came out. ...one place even said $400.00....I was like get F*****ED!
LOL!
