Mushy shifting after rebuild - 700r4
So I had my transmission rebuilt out of necessity about two months ago. I figure it's well broken in by now. The problem is that the shift between 3 - 4 is not completely synchronized.
The engine seems to change it's rpm's before the tranny shifts into 4th. Sometimes this is a mild delay, sometimes it's 2 or 3 seconds.
Also, the transmission now needs a lot more pedal down to downshift, and there's a distinct lull in that too.
The whole transmission seems like it's not quite as stout as it was before....anyone have thoughts? I've adjusted the TV cable, etc....is this a TV spring problem
All thoughts are helpful.....thanks

No...I had the TV cable replaced months ago because the teardrop connector was broke.
This used to be a great car and silly fast. Now it seems like it's dragging and missing 10 horsepower. I want my hot rod back!

Did you have a shift kit in it when it went in for rebuild. I only ask because I had a B&M one in mine and aparently the guy who rebuilt it was not listening when I said I had a shiftkit so he put the extra check ***** back in which caused problems.
Another suggestion is to get an aftermarket TV cable. They are more adjustable than the factory style ones.

I have been wondering if I did or not. What could have been taken off the car if there was a shift kit in it to make it "original"? I would think anyone who saw extra parts indicating a shift kit would know not to undo it or steal anything.

And yes, the torque converter was changed TWICE!!! Because the first new one started to come apart immediately

I don't think anyone would go to the trouble of stealing a shift kit, but if they didn't notice it was there and put the extra check ***** back in it may cause some problems.
It could be you got another bad converter. Is the trans under warantee still?

I dont like mechanics at all...
I got a whole line of equine defecate about how transmissions have personalities, and torque converters rarely work at the stall they're supposed to, etc etc etc...
Long story short, two guys told me that it works just like it supposed to....and now I have a snafu-ed tranny.
Just my luck....thanks everyone all the same.

Not to add insult to injury, but this is EXACTLY why I plan on doing my own rebuild. Nobody to blame but myself.

What stall speed did you put in?
I put in a 2200 stall converter, and unless it was at WOT, it sucked. Turns out it was locking up before the stall speed.
I installed a switch to keep the TC from locking up. Around town it's off, on the highway I switch it back to normal operation in which the comp. locks the TC. I've since switched from 2.77 gears to 3.27 gears, and now I don't really need the switch to keep it unlocked around town.
