Not a car guy, needs your help
Im the farthest away from a car person as it gets but ill try to explain this as best i can.
Ok so i got this old '86 Camaro. I was recently driving it along and stopped at a light. Light turns green i hit the gas and i don't think it liked it. Cars dies in the middle of the road. Oil is present and gas. Car doesnt start.
Get it to a shop and the say its the carborator, "i think", said its not getting a spark. They replace carborator, car starts.
Although cars starts it sucks. The repair guy says there is still transmission problems. It will not get up to speed nearly as fast as it used to, takes a couple minutes to reach even a somewhat desireable speed. Stops just fine.
What could this be? Transmission fluid? PLease give me a clue so if i do take it somewhere i don't get totally ripped off.

need more info
is it a v6, v8? was it always a carb or did someone retro it? did you do a tune up (or have one done) when you bought it? where was the oil and gas coming from, has it happend before?
personally I've found the best way to not get ripped off is to do the work myself (granted I'm still learning but gotta start somewhere). barring that get refrences from people you know or from the better business bearu. well that should help people get you started.

Hehe ok. Theres a wing nut ontop of teh aircleaner lid(big round thing ontop of engine). Take that off and remove the lid. Look down inside and youll see two or four round holes with a plate at the bottom. When you press on the gas the plates should rotate out of the way so air can get in.

One other quick thing i thought you could check is for a plugged exhaust. Theres two methods. You can plug up the exhaust pipe and see if the engine revs any differently. You could also use your hand to feel for more exhaust when the engine is reved but it takes time to get the feel of it so id suggest using the first. You dont have to drive the car around to do it. You can do it in park.

Check the trans fluid and let us know the color ad smell of it? If it smells burned it at least needs to be replaced. Might even be time for a trans rebuild.
