Read Me.....Read Me.....

While I am a good mechanic, I know little about automatic transmissions. My car has under 100,000 miles. Original tranny. I have noticed that under very light throttle, the one-two shift is kind of hard. Cable was re-adjusted after I changed the intake gaskets last month. Filter/fluid were recently serviced.
From what I have read, the cable adjustment may not be as easy/straight foward, as described. Too much pressure will cause rough shifting, and too little will not be enough to prevent clutch slippage and wear. Am I missing something in the cable adjustment procedure? I see that the servo is supposed to fully retract when releasing the cable, during the adjustment procedure. Do I have a problem, or are the observed symptoms absolutely not a concern? I have my fingers crossed. I have looked for the answer with a search, but cannot find suitable text concerning this issue.
Thanks
