I just did this swap this past weekend on my 88 Formula.
I put in a World Class T5 out of an 88 GTA.
Crossmembers for the T5 and the 700R4 are the same, at least on the 88's.

I am still running the 88 TPI Auto memcal and it seems to run great.

You will need the hydraulics, brake/clutch pedal assembly, and the T5 with shifter, bellhousing, clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel.
You have to cut a hole in the firewall for the clutch master cylinder and drill 2 holes for the u-clamp that holds it in.

You then have to cut a hole in the trans tunnel for the shifter.

T5 would be the cheapest option, T56 6 speed would cost about $1500 or so.
If you plan on installing a 350 soon, you might want to consider a T56.
computer is fine, no need to replace that, but maybe an eprom for a manual car might help.

Zepher, what did you do about the saftey switch for the clutch? Or the reverse lights, did you just have to rewire them? Also what would you consider to be the hardest part about the swap. I have read quite a bit of info regaurding this, but it never hurts to ask questions...

thanks for the info Zepher....I plan on a 383 with a t56 swap in the next couple of months...from there i might add a whipple supercharger if it can fit under my 2" cowl hood...Do you think the t56 will be able to handle it?

I haven't hooked those up yet.
I am just going to add 2 lengths of wires from the N/P safety switch on the pedal asembly to the two wires in the center console where the original wires for the Automatic are.
The reverse lights will be run from the bottom of the car up to the console area as well.

The hardest parts were removing the auto tranny and removing the T5 pedals from the other car.

Probably right near the pedals to the left is the plug for the safety switch for the clutch. (At least in a 90 bird it was there eventhough it was an auto). I have found in my car the internal wiring harness has every connection on it wether it was an auto or manual, wether it has or does not have fog lights, wether it has a power antenna or it doesn't.

The plug will have the same colored wires as the P/N connection at the counsel infact you could test with a contunity tester and will find they are the same. If you have the plug on the end of the safety switch all that you would have to do is plug it in (of course if they are the same shape, they changed them every so often)

Also you may find my thread on clutch MC install helpfull here

Does that hold true for most f-bodies? What about a 91 GTA?

Thanks,
Bill
