All LT1 cars and LS1 cars came with posi rears and disk brakes. Don't bother with V6 rears since there are boat loads of said rears out there. The Z28 and SS rears were exactly identical per model year. Some LS1 SS cars could get the Auburn unit but I would highly doubt that you will find one. Most came with the plain jain Zexel unit. I would go for an LS1 rear since the brakes make that rear slightly better. The LS1 rears are also about .5" shorter than LT1 rears which will make your Z06 wheel fitment better. If you get a rear from a T56 car it will have 3.42 gears. Auto cars came with 3.23's. Some came with 2.73's but they are rare.

I would try to get one from a LT1 car the brakes and E-brakes will be easier to hook up .. They use the same type caliper as the J65 3rd gens .. good luck

V6 models had standard disc brakes starting with the 1998 model year and they are the same rear as the V8 models; some had 3.42 gears. Why skip the V6 rears? Answer: There is no reason to skip them.

Rare is a 4 letter word. 2.73s were standard with almost any automatic fourth gen f-body. 3.23 were optional. 2.73s were not rare. Knock that rare crap off.

The 1998 V8 F-bodies had an Auburn style posi (cone) standard. An SLP option on the SS was a heavy duty Torsen. The 1999 - 2002 V8 F-bodies had a Torsen (helix gear) standard and the SLP option for the SS (and WS6 I believe) was the heavy duty Auburn.

I appreciate the corrections.

Good to know about the 98's. Didn't know they made an change for that model year. I know when my buddy ordered his SS he did not get the Auburn unit option because of the price. The standard was the regular Torsen as you mentioned.

I geuss I only say the 2.73's were rare because I never see them. I don't think anyone in our club of 20 autos have them. I realize that doesn't mean that is normal, but it is easy to draw conclusions and deem them rare. I geuss I have to do more research on that to find the actual production numbers. In my area, it was impossible to find a Z on the lot with those gears. I really should have said stay away from the 93 - 97 V6 rears when you can get 98 + rears for the same price. You will come out with better brakes and posi for the same cost. I realize they are the same rears but the LS1's will have bigger brakes and gauranteed posi. Thanks for the heads up.
