Please help.....9-bolt dilemma

I am in need of some help....my dad has an 89 formula 350 with a 9-bolt and 3.27's. He has had the car for awhile now and it is baby. The posi unit went and we are having a hell of a time finding....a new posi unit...I searched and went on suggestion to check out 9bolt.com ....Miles only has 3.73s and it is my understanding that this ratio with a mildly modded tpi car would not be ideal.....he has no other rartios available.....Im really trying to get something for my father without buying a curtis strange unit or something like that.....is there anywhere else we can look so that we can finish restoring this car....?? All help is appreciated from both my father and I.. Thanks

just replace the posi or have the cones cut down and shimmed. that has nothing to do with changing gear ratios.

Its not very easy to find brand new units. I have not been able to find them myself. Best luck I've had is finding used units in the yards. Maybe look into rebuilding the posi unit. There is a nice tech article on the front page of the website regarding rebuilding the 9 bolt posi cones. Might be the best bet if you cant find a new unit.

I phoned them a month or so ago and was quoted 166 for 3.73 for yukon gears.I checked another place here in edmonton and they and they quoted me 250 cdn for the same gears.
Im sure any place that sells yukon gear sets will sell you gears for a 9bolt.
Id check ebay too theres usually some on there but there used

It's my understanding that the new GTO uses the same 9 bolt rear as we do just a different housing. You may want to check out some of the GTO forums.

no, the gto is way way way differant. check some of my old posts, I took one apart and took pictures for every one to see. this was to put an end to that myth.

read drains post. there are other sources for those gears and diff. if you are haveing too hard of a time and decide on a differant rear then let me know. I will take it off your hands

here is the post you can see how differant the size and carriers are..

Maybe this will help....

In the classifieds, I am selling a NEW IN THE BOX 9 bolt posi unit.

It is a 2 series, but you can just take the guts out and put them in your 3 series unit.

I am asking $150 plus shipping.

Contact me at jmvst23@comcast.net if interested.

Also, if I am wrong about taking the guts from a 2 series to repair a 3 series, someone please correct me. But I am pretty sure the guts are teh same for both.
