Anyone have a T56 installed for them?

Just wondering what it would, should, and has costed people to have a t56 swapped into an A4, automatic car. I am looking for the labor price alone, not prices for parts and complete swaps. I might be getting my transmission worked on in the near future and if they have to take it out of the car to do it, I just might tell them to put in a T56 instead. No I am not wealthy and like to blow money, but under the new circumstances I just might be able to make it happen. I know prices will vary from shop to shop and that experience will also be a factor, but I would like a general idea from people who have payed others to do the swap. I would be supplying all of the parts to the shop. The shop I am dealing with has not done a swap like this before and if I decide to have them do the install instead of myself, then I would like to know that I am getting a competitive price. Thanks for any help.

it'll prolly be a ludacris amount...the parts alone are gonna be like 1500 or more....and if everything doesn't go right, your gonna have so much labor it'll be rediculous....i bet labor charges will be in the 500-1000 dollar range...

Yeah, I was thinking around $500+ for the labor, but we'll see what happens. It would most likely be a two day job for the shop. Anyone else? Anyone actually have it done before want to chime in? Thanks

Well, i'm not totally sure yet. My T56 is supposed to arrive this week. I'm installing it this weekend, after that I can give you an idea. I have everything to do it except the tranny itself. However my car was originally a T5 so its not as big of a deal. If I can be of any help, feel free to ask. From what I understand it is definetly worth the time and cost, so I think you'll be happy if decide to go that route. Have you priced T56 transmissions in your area? I was very unhappy when I looked around and was informed that they are rare around here and they sell for about the same as new ones do.

I think I am going to be doing it on my own as well. I just want to see if it would be worth it to drop it off and get it done by someone else. Once school starts next week, it will be tough to get it done on my own in less than a weekend's time. I see you have a very similar setup as me, how do you like it? Have you thought of going with a larger cam with the miniram and now the t56? If you want you can pm. Later-Bryan

Yes i have thought about a different cam, but i just reinstalled the engine and won't pull it again untill next fall unless i REALLY have to. When i pull it back out I will be stroking the motor and having the heads completely CNC ported. I will probably be lowering hte compression as I am now at 11.5 :1. Sure pm me.

If someone came to have one installed, $600 for an electric speedo car.

500 just installing the trans not dealing with the speedometer issues.

Do you work at a shop Z28racer, or own your own? As far as the speedo was concerned I could definately take care of that with my electronic Autometer Speedometer if that was an issue for the shop. I'm just worried about the hydraulics and clutch install. From looking around a bit, $500 seems to be the average number. If I can get a setup cheap enough and in good shape, then it would be worth it to have someone install it for me. It definately pays to know people in the wrecking business.

If you came into my shop it would all depend on how much you wanted done.
There is more work to the hydraulics and installing the pedals than the trans itself.
Just remove auto and instal t56 with cross member. with clutch and flywheel. No electronics or hydraluics would be about $500.00 in labour. About another $500-600 ish ( custom work is billed by the hour) to do the hydralics and pedal instal.
Any interior work is additional cost.
It dosn't take to long to rack up the bill with custom work.
If it is a matter of cost rebuilding or replacing an automatic is cheaper than converting.
Oh and by the way prices would be in Canadian dollars.

Also most shops are less inclined to give labour discounts if you are suppling your on parts.

something funny: I once had a customer that thought that all that was invloved in converting from a auto to a manual was to change the shifter.

That is pretty bad, but we all have to start somewhere. No one is born with knowledge of everything. Thanks for the insight.

Not too bad on the price after the conversion, only a tad higher.
