Is this normal??

Bought an 89 IROC 700R-4 2 months ago. When driving normal it seems to shift soft and mushy into 2nd and 3rd gear. While shifting if I give it gas there is a slight rpm change, I have had a slipping trans before and this seems diffrent. But under hard acceleration it shifts fine. also Manually shifting is fine no slippage. Any thought would be helpful. I have Adjusted the TV cable, new filter and synthetic B&M trick shift with a quart of lucas trans fix feels the same all around.

Thanks

sounds like something that a corvette servo would/should fix.

dont shift manually anymore....just leave it in D if you wanna race....cause i never had a problem till my cuz got my Z and shifted it manually and now he had to pay the rebuild on tranny... but sounds like its about time for an upgrade like he said

Have you driven a stock 700R4 before buying this car? I think the soft shift you're feeling is the result of the stock line pressure. These 700R4's had to be somewhat comfortable for the average consumer, easy soft shifts while cruzing. Only reason I say that is because it works good when you hammer it. If it was damaged, you would more likely feel the effects on hard throttle than you would on soft throttle. You've checked the TV and serviced it, not much more you can do. Install a shift kit and it will shift firmly into each gear all the time. The higher pressure quicker shift will also cause less clutch slippage while shifting.

Thanks for the replies, per the guy that sold it to me the trans is only 2 years old and it is painted which would lead me to believe he is telling me the truth. Alot of people have been telling me that it is nomal. Thought I would get some f-body owner oppinions. I am planning on a shift kit this weekend/next weekend. I will post all of the details on the car page.

I've heard a lot of bad things about B&M fluid. Enough that I'll never use it. Some people will tell you it's no different. i dunno, but I'll still never use it.

I'm not saying it's a problem, i just thought I'd bring it up.

No different from Ford Type-F fluid anyway, except for the pretty blue dye. Not something I'd want to use in my car. If you insist on using it, at least get the real Type-F so you're not paying extra for the color.

Not sure but, I think trick shift fluid is for non lock up transmissions. Check this.

I put regular B&M trick shift in my 84Z28(355ci) at the time I put the shft kit in. Always kicked right into gear never had any problems. What would you suggest for a Shift kit / fluid combo?
