68' camaro 12 bolt on a 84' camaro
A friend of mine is restoring a 68' camaro and is putting in a 9" to hold up to the 500 h.p. Will the 12 bolt posi rear fit into a 84 z-28? Width?

I know it wont have spots for coil springs but it will have spots for leaf springs. I would love to get my hands on a GM 12 bolt i could use it for my bird and get rid of my 10 bolt.

No I am away at college right now so I haven't made it home to check it out, I realize it will require so modifications......thought maybe someone on here has done this before
sure it could be done. it'd be pretty simple all you'd have to do is move all the brackets from the 10 bolt to the 12 bolt and get the width right plus figure out how you're going to mount a torque arm

Cutting off the first gens mounting hardware is easy. Welding on the hardware for the third gen such as spring mounts, shock and LCA mounts isn't hard. The problem you're going to have is the torque arm. There's no way to attach the torque arm onto that 12 bolt. Even if you try to fabricate a mounting bracket, it would have to be welded onto the cast iron center section of the diff. To get a good strong weld, cast iron needs to be heated up with a torch first. You risk warping the diff.
There must be something wrong with the 12 bolt. It can easily handle the same power levels as a 9".

Actually the 12 bolt is perfectly fine, that's what I was thinking....the 12 bolt should hold up just as well as a 9", but I'm saying a word because I wanna slap that 12 bolt under my z-28

Well no kidding I figured that, but I can get the rearend for next to nothing so I can afford to have some fabrication professionally done....I'm not planning on busting out grandpa's old stick welder and going at at

gm hasn't made a 12 bolt posi in 30 years and your local yard has them laying around for 150 each. guess if you go there you need to wear your baggy pants because monkeys will be flying out your butt is about as likely to happen as finding 150 dollar 12 bolt parts in a yard. Thread
