Ford 9" factory spline count

Hey guys. I am seriously considering buying a Moser housing w/axels and building a 9".

Does anyone know what most factory FORD axle spline count was?

What would most guys recommend for a spline count?

My question was not on what is available, but on what is out there factory (on junkyard trucks, lincolns, etc).

In any case, I just ordered a moser 9" housing with axles for my '88 setup for lt1 brakes and 31 spline. I am gonna run a auburn posi with 4.30 gears.

The car was a T5, but is now a th350. I have a t56 out of my wrecked LT1 that needed some work, and when its done, its going in there. I figure for this season gonna race it with the trubo 350.

Thanks for all your help!

P.S. I wonder if I could get a centersection with gears (open diff) from a local boneyard and get a powertrax locker with 31 splines and install that and make work to start??? Anyone know?

yup, then 31 spline looks like what you're after.... any decient truck 9" would have 31 splines... they're fairly common, and aftermarket/OEM parts for it are plentiful....

Ford produced 28 and 31 spline axles for their 9" diffs. I use aftermarket 31 spline axles just because parts are easier and cheaper to find for 31 spline than for 35 spline. I may be getting close to the limits of 31 spline axles but until I break one I'll keep using them. 35+ spline axles start adding weight that I don't need. Gun drilled axles can cut the weight down but are also at a much higher cost.

Yes but don't expect to find any great gear ratios. There are the occasional 4.xx gears out there but most common to find are 3.00 to 3.50
