5 speed from a 94?

Im just wondering if a 5 speed from a 94 Camaro with a 3.4 will bolt up to my 91 Camaro with a 305. If so, what else will I need for the swap?

To my knowledge it won't. It has a different input shaft as well as bell housing. You can convert it to mate to your motor but you can get a V8 T5 for next to nothing. There are millions of them out there. I would go that route since it will cost less in the long run.

But I can get this one for less than "next to nothing" with the pedals and everything else included. I think Id be better off converting the peices or whatever, because its a brand new trans too.

I'm sure this helps your question... I had no problems when I put my 3.4 short block in my v6 5 speed car. 5 speed was in my car behind a 3.1.. before that it was behind a 2.8 from the junkyard. All 60* V6s.

3.8L T5s are different splines though as far as I know...perhaps v8 spline, not sure.

Hmm, That helps a bit. How hard would it be to convert it to a V8 spline?

It's real easy to convert a 6-cyl transmission to a V8 clutch spline. 2 easy steps.

1. Buy V8 trans.
2. Put 6-cyl trans in garbage, or sell it.

Or, you can add a whole lot of steps in between, and just make it harder and more expensive on yourself:

1. Buy V8 trans.
1.1 Take V8 trans apart.
1.2 Take 6-cyl trans apart.
1.3 Buy a "rebuild kit", with all the bearings and stuff that you need when you tear one down.
1.4 Put all V8 hard parts (gears etc) in 6-cyl case (which is identical to the V8 case).
1.5 Throw V8 case in the garbage.
2. Throw 6-cyl guts in garbage, with no chance of even getting back the $25 you wasted on buying it in the first place.

Which makes more sense?

There's a reason you can get those 6-cyl transmissions for next to nothing. And that reason is, because they're not good for anything. And the reason they're not good for anything, is because they can't be used with a V8, without at the very least, downgrading the clutch in addition to downgrading the transmission. And the reason it's a downgrade, is because the 6-cyl ratios are so far apart. You know how in a 700R4 (automatic) car, the engine goes from "scream" to "lug" when it shifts from 1st to 2nd? well a 6-cyl T-5 is like that; except it's at EVERY shift.

All in all, it's just not a good idea.

Alright then, ya talked me out of it. What do V8 t5s go for? And what parts can I salvage from that 94? Pedals? Driveshaft? Anything?

Drive shaft is about all that's worth anything; but even that is no better than what you've got now. The one to get is an aluminum one from a 98-up car.

None of the rest of it, including the pedals, is worth bothering with. 4th gen pedals in at least some applications have a different master cyl to slave cyl ratio, and so require the pivot point to be in a different place; so a 4th gen pedal set won't work a 3rd gen hydraulic system. They'll work the other way around, but the 3rd gen pedals actually push the 4th gen MC too far; and the end result is a stiff clutch that goes through the entire range from full engage to full disengage in about half the pedal travel. Try to go the other way, and you'll need twice the pedal travel to get full clutch range.

Basically you should have just held on to your money until the actual right thing came along.

V8 T-5s go for whatever the seller agrees to part with it for, as long as the buyer is willing to pay it. If the buyer wants more than the seller wants to pay, then it doesn't go at all. In other words, it's a free market, and people's opinion of what it's "worth", varies widely. And odds are, whatever anybody tells you one is "worth" here, is going to be wrong; unless they're selling one and they're telling you what they want for it. But even then that's not what it's "worth", only what they want. Might not be "worth" that to you.

Haha, good way of explaining it.

I haven't actually bought the trans yet, but my buddy is getting the 94 to part out.

I guess I'll just save my money. Anyone know on average what the trans/pedals everything I would need goes for?
