4-3 downshift at WOT

My tranny will not downshift from 4-3 when I put the gas pedal to the floor. It upshifts fine and downshifts from 3-2 fine. I am pretty sure the tv cable is adjusted right. Could the governor have something to do with this?

If the TV cable is adjusted correctly, and you do not get a 4-3 downshift at WOT, be happy, just grab the shift lever and bring it back when needed. At low throttle openings, always give the throttle a blip when downshifting, and then let off the throttle when the shift is complete. At WOT, move the lever back at the same time you are flooring it. This will greatly improve the life of the transmission.

That's exactly what I've been doing. I don't mind doing it that way but once in a while I'm a nice person and I let my girlfriend drive my car and she just doesn't grasp the concept of moving the gear selector to accelerate faster. I was driving around last night and the upshifts seem a little quick when in OD. It goes from 1-2 a little early and 2-3-4 really quick, barly staying in 2 and 3. I have to adjust the weights and springs of the governor to make the shifts longer right?

not sure about the governor. depending on what mph you are at, you should be able to shift from 4-1, not to mention 4-2 or 4-3. by the fact that you are saying the car seems to shift early, I'd suspect the cable is not adjusted properly and pressure is building prematurely, making your transmisssion shift. Just my .02, the page below might offer some insight (and describe LSS and SSS conditions, which are unlikely in your case, but still possible)

Yesterday I played with the tv cable and it helped out the quick up shifts, but I still don't get any downshift in 4th gear at wot.

You might have the modified TV plunger sleeve, (from the Corvett e). Some of the Corvettes had the modified TV plunger sleeve, which will prevent the 4-3 downshift at freeway speeds.

Yesterday afternoon I was accelerating under different conditions and found that the tranny alway upshifts to 4 at 50mph, at light throttle, part throttle, and WOT. And at any rpm, always at 50mph. For now I'll just deal with it unless anyone has any other suggestions. BTW I have my old valve body out of an old tranny that went bad. My old tranny was awsome till the 3-4 band went out. Never had a downshifting problem.

If you were happy with the "old" valve body, & the way it worked, then change it over. The interchangability of the valve bodies has to be a 1988 thru 1993, to do this.
