I had a big thread about the mystery noise that I have after installing my t56, and I can finally recreate the noise without driving the car. I put in poly bushings and when the tourqe arm was off, i decided to move it around and i was able to recreate the noise. It corresponded to the slip yoke going in and out of the tranny. Actually it was more just when i would pull down on the tourqe arm and the slip yoke would slide into the tranny that the "clunk" would happen. Under driving conditions it happens when in gear and i tap the gas causing the tranny to move around a little thus making the sound. Any ideas what the problem is?

i have the same problem but i think i am having noise from the torque arm
Thats what i thought too, but I have definetlly ruled that out now that i have new bushings in there. I'm pretty sure the tranny has to come out, but I would really like to know what the problem is before i rip it out.
new poly torque arm bushing, new poly trans mount bushing, new spohn x-member. My brother suggested taking the driveshaft out and checking the length of the slip yoke from my car as compared to the slip yoke that came with the tranny I got. The donor car was a 93 lt1, does anybody have a spec for that?

The poly mounts will amplify every little bit of noise that you wouldn't normally hear with stock mounts.
Could be some other thing at play like pinion angle ect. Has your car been lowered? What kind of tranny x-member are you using? Sure the tranny sits at an ok position?
Sorta sounds like your drive shaft is just a tad too long. Tho I have never heard of this being an issue with a stock length drive shaft.

i have the spohn x-member for the t56 swap and my car has the eibach pro kit which only lowers the car an inch. I'm wondering if the slip yoke that came with my t56 is shorter than the one on my driveshaft now. (its the stock one for a 700r4)
the yokes are exactly the same, i have ruled out everythng from the transmission back which means its either a clutch problem or a tranny poblem, I'm going to take it down to my local mechanic and see what he says, becuse i have tried everything i can think of and no one else seems to have had this problem before.

Having installed poly mounts both on the trans and engine in my '92, I can assure you they amplify vibration and noise. Most likely what's heard is driveline slop all the way from the rear to the clutch, and if those components have a lot of miles, it could be considerable. Originally posted by HalfInchWrench

Might be able to isolate it more with a stethoscope...
yeah, but this noise was there before the poly bushings and was not there with the automatic, the only thing thats not new or resurfaced is the internals of the tranny.

i noticed my noise after i put the spohn arm in. but i did so many other things at the same time so i am not sure. and not to highkack this thread but how do you check the pinion angle, i put the angle finder on the flat part of the torque arm and it reads -2 than i put it on the driveshaft and that reads -2. is this -4 since they say to add them.
