Thinking about going to a manual setup, but need help.
I really wanted to change my car over to a stick shift. I have a zz1 motor, 373 gears, full exhaust, tpi, etc. and i was wondering what kind of tranny to go with. also, with t5s theres world class and non...what is the difference. or would that be dumb and i should go with a t56. and finally, would this be a waste of time and/or money. i have a 700r4 right now, so how much money do you think a transfer would cost, including selling my transmission when i am done with the swap? i will have more to talk about after this as well.

OK well there is sort of a lot to consider. The T-56 is bigger, take that into account with your exhaust. Next there is the driveshaft length, tranny crossmember, hydrolic set up, and pedals. Sounds like a lot, but it really insn't bad. I am swapping my T-5 to a T-56 now. I got my T-56 in the mail last night. It is out of a 94 TA. Came with bellhousing, new hydros, flywheel and even a hust short throw. I got it from a fellow TGO member. 1500 bucks to my doorstep. Not bad at all. I am reusing my old pedals, bolting up the new hydro, (might need to drill a couple holes) and then I am using a spohn x-member made for this tranny. As for pipes that has not been figured out yet.
Hope this helps get you started, if you have any more Qs just ask, later

Yeah, check jegs, summit, spohn and others. Just the tranny, and absolutly nothing else, is 99% of the time over 2200. To get it complete and in the car, add at least another 1000-1500.
It is an expensive upgrade, but with the way gas is now, it is the one thing on your car that can acctually pay for itself. The 6th gear is .50 on a 94+ T-56. That can keep a car with 4.10s bellow 3,000 RPM on the highway.
Not to mention you can throw all kinds of power at them. And upgrade them later down the road relativley easily.
Hope you don't totally disregard the idea. Good luck with everything else.

Just FYI the driveshaft is the same length for 82-02 so there's no need to change it unless you want an aluminum one.. As for getting parts, check on camaroz28.com for a setup from a user there if you're on a budget.. Buying a brand new tranny is as what was said above, 2200 or more.. You generally find the tranny, sometimes clutch/flywheel, bellhousing, pedals for anywhere from 900-1500 depending on who's selling it and mileage etc.. You also need the crossmember (www.spohn.net around $100) and the speedo will need to be corrected.. and its a little over $100 for new hydraulics for the clutch unless you get that with the donor car's tranny as well.. Also, the stock 700r4 starter does not fit in there after the swap so I got an LT1 starter. I can't remember if there was a way to modify for fitment or not.

i dont know. it seems like too much money. because i saw a built t5 with low miles and an entire swap from auto for like 550. so i thought it wouldnt be that bad, but i definantly cant afford this.

I looked around for a long time. If you find a built T-5 for 500 bucks I would most def question it. I sold my old 1991 100K mile T-5 for $375, not built up, just stock. And that was only the tranny, no bellhousing or pedals....And I sold it to TKOpreformance. He def knows what he is talking aobut when it comes to built T-5s. He makes them.
Oh well, good luck with your car. And be carefull not to get into a deal that is too good to be true.

There are ways to do true dual, just depends how mush work you wanna do or $ u wanna spend.
I am gonna run long tubes and oval pipe, then dump b 4 the axle.
As for my pipes, yeah they are mandral, def not mint, but nice. I had it on my car when i bought it. If you are not close shipping is gonna be sorta high i would bet. But i will sell it to you for not much if you are inteersted. PM me
