I want a TC without a BUNCH OF B/S
i want a TH350 torque converter 3200-3500, and when i pull it into gear it snaps right into gear as if i didnt have a higher stall converter. im not sure who sells the best or one of the better torque converter but my 77 ventura has a 3k stall that takes off like its half way in gear/ as if it were standard. this is what im trying to avoid. anyone have an opinion about this?

my th350 with a B&M 2000 rpm stall snaps into gear. its from a tight new tranny not really the tc. doesnt mean the tranny is new just that it is in good shape. i like it lets me now i did a good job putting it together. im not to sure how you could aviod it.

Look into Precision Industries "Vigilante" torque converters. Even some of their hairier converters seem to have damn good street manners. Nice and tight until you stomp on it.
I've also heard good things about Yank converters.
A lot of the LS1 guys like them for that reason. I knew someone who had a 3500 from Yank and it was nice.
Be ready to crack open the wallet though, about $800 for one, IIRC.

i think it would be $800 for a 700r4, th350 is probably less.... thats the type of converter i want tho. just not sure which would best for my money.

Most of it depends on what stator the convertor has and fin angle.
You could get a sloppy 8" race convetor in there and never feel when the tranny is put in gear or shifts and probably foot brake it to 4-5K no problem. If the convertor is new enough, send it back to get it tweaked, most companies will retweak your convertor once for free since it's nearly impossbile to get it 100% correct 1st time out. Many companies that are good will get it close-very close, but if you want it exactly like you want it, it'll have to be tweaked.

I hear a lot of bad things about B&M white box converters I as well got the 2000 stall in my 80 malibu (no real use of putting it in as its only a couple more hundred rpm, shoulda went with a 3000 for myself) anyways with about 20,000k on the motor I need a new loead bearring I believe it is? those cheap 120 dollar TC ballon pushin your crank = bad times

I have a Torco 9.5" convertor. Torco now sells under the Art Carr name. Its very tight and street friendly leaves from a light just like a regular convertor. I can footbrake mine to 2300RPM (my brakes SUCK) and it'll flash at like 3800-4000RPM. Call (325) 698-6667 and try to talk to Mickey. He'll ask you everything about your car and decide which convertor is right for you... Then $350 and less than a week later it'll be at your door step.
I gotta few friends who run these converters as well and we're all 100% happy - I'd buy another one in a second.

well i bought the 2000 rpm stall for my s10 and seeing how it was a cheap converter when i do motor work ill change it. the th350 cost me $300 then i bought a stock rebuild kit for $50, advance adapter kit for $150 and the b&M tc for $150 = $650 and me doing all the work including the rebuild. The only things i miss is my over drive and first gear. But i probly will end up going back to the 700r4 someday
