Its getting down to the wire and I need to decide between two trans...

OK, I should be putting in the new one very shortly. I have 2 options and I want opinions on which one to go with. Im not saying tell me what to do, cause ill get yelled at, just what you would do in the same situation and see what kind of responses and reasons i get.

Option 1:
I have here a 700r4 from a 1990 350 camaro. rebuilt by gm goodwrench 15k ago. it has a 2500 stall with it as well. part of the bellhousing is cracked off but i am told it is still functional, it needs to be cleaned out thanks to some pink, watery fluid, and the tailhousing is cracked. i think i can use the one i have now though. i was thinking of using that with a transgo kit, which would be around 100, and the big cooler i got with it. altogether this was 250 bucks.

Option 2:
I know of somebody selling a 4l60 from sallee-chevrolet.com . it has 18000 on it since purchased and comes with a 2000 stall and a new megashifter. it costs 600. it has been used in a third gen, so all the mods are done already. i wouldnt really need to do anything to this trans to get it right.

Now, my motor produces about 350hp.385 torque with a 750 carb and similar exhaust, but i have a tpi. so say more tq, less hp.

What would you guys do?

Of course I would have to sell the 700r4 as well which I am having no luck with so far. thanks a lot.

I would flip a coin. If I understand it correctly, you have 2 used transmissions that are likely good. They seem to be your only available options based on your budget. Put one of them in and drive/enjoy the car.

yea i kinda want the megashifter though
i mean if theyre both good deals, wouldnt it make more sense to get the more expensive one.
how much better would my trans perform with the transgo kit in it, would it be worth it?
thanks a lot.

IMO--
The 700R4 and the 4L60 are basically the same thing. The 4L60 came stock in my 92 Camaro.

They are both used and work well.

performance parts---choose that one since the transmissions are otherwise equal

You will be happy with it. A stronger tranny is always a good thing!!
Look at the trip as a chance to relax!!!

The cracked case compromises the strength if th trans. That combined with the cracked tailhousing will make it near impossible to sell. If you are lucky, someone will buy it. If not, a local trans shop will likely buy it from you for parts.

You can, but you are probably better off keeping it as a spare. I bought my last f body tailhousing off ebay for 5 bucks. Tailhousing is not a big deal at all. It also should not be a dealbreaker if you sell it. The buyer will have a tailhousing too.

Don't get me wrong. "I" would put a trans on my car with a small piece of the bellhousing missing. Not too big of a deal. The average guy would be scared of it. Slap that puppy in your car and drive it!

so you think i should ditch the more expensive one with the good parts in it?
im not worried about the crack, but i would at least want to put a transgo kit in it first which im not sure about doing myself, but i heard with the video its no biggie as long as you take your time.

do you agree that putting in the transgo kit shouldnt be a big deal as long as i take my time and watch the video a couple times. my friend told me, watch the step 2 times first, then do the step, then watch it again to make sure you did it right. i think i should be able to get away with doing it like this since i dont have much experience. i guess im gonna use the one i have now. should i get a new tailhousing, bushing, and seal, or should i just use the one of my old trans? thanks a lot.
