Auto to Manual Swap ?

I am in the midst of swapping my Raptor 700 for a Tremec TKO 600 5spd manual.

I was looking at the firewall today & was trying to figure out where to drill the holes for the factory master cylinder. I have read thet some cars have dimples from the factory to guide where the holes are drilled, mine does not have this. It does have, in the insulation under the carpet, a set of precut holes for the cylinder. I don't know accurate these will be though. Has anyone done this? How accurate does it need to be? Unfortunatley I don't have the pedals yet. Hopefully they will be here next week.

BTW, all the stuff I took off from the auto trans is for sale. Shifter, leather ****, 153 tooth SFI flexplate, Midwest 2800 stall lockup converter. auto brake pedal. I beleive the trans is spoken for,but if that falls throgh, that will be available too

Been there, done that. The insulation is your guide. Leave it automatic, it will be quicker.

EDIT-sorry about the rant, bad day at the track. I have a stick car with the slave removed if you need some measurements. From what I remember the insulation had other holes that enabled me to get it lined up fairly accurately.

Is it directly under the brake master cylinder? That where the holes seem to be.

Congrats on your swap man! I've said it before and I will say it again, swapping to a stick shift is just like drinking Samuel Adams beer, "always a good choice"

I drilled the first hole for my clutch master by using the cutout in my insulation. Then I used the gasket that goes between the firewall and the clutch master cylinder as a template for the 2nd hole. It worked out pretty well.

As it turns out I am going to use a set of 4th gen pedals. The pedals I got off an Ebay seller were wrong, he sent a set for 82-83 mechanical linkage even though he advertised they were hydraulic. They are going back.
I found that GM still sells the complete unit (pedals, pads, brackets incl)for the 93-97 F-bodies for $68 trade price (as I work for a GM dealer my price is lower). That is less than most places get for used third gen sets. I have found prices ranging from $40-70 on Ebay & $75-125 from Third gen sources. All salvage yards in my area don't have any, I have checked twice.
From my parts illustrations here at work, it appears that the upper bracket & master cylinder bracket are integrated, so I will wait until Friday when it comes in & use it for template for the holes.
