Need rear end help/advice
Ok i recently had a shop swap in a 3.27 gear/3seriers carrier into my 9 bolt rear
and today i spun the tires and noticed only one leaving a patch. and it sounded kinda weird...not like it used to while burning out. it used to spin both but the one tire would leave a darker patch and i thought it was from twisting of the car.
so now i think my posi might be shot...
i'm not sure on what to do... i would love a 12bolt rear but dont wanna spend that kind of money just yet.
i also like to upgrade to 10 bolt 4th gen rear so i can run Zr1 wheels or vette wheels someday....
i'm not sure what to do
the other option is:
i found two 3 series carriers on EBAY that are low mileage and are in good working condition so they say.
my question is this... can i put in one of these carriers and not buy a new gear/posi install kit? i just had these new gears put in earlier this late summer. so they have maybe 1000 miles on them if that. if i can just take the old posi out and put a new one in, that would be great. cuz i dont wanna get a new install kit with new bearings and such...
or could i have mine rebuilt?

Do a search for shimming the posi. Or try cones for 9 bolts
Its quite common on 9 bolts.
83 Crossfire TA had a nice post with lots of pics in it..
If everything else is okay, u should be fine shimming it.

well after searching for a bit, shims can be used to tighten up the posi...
but since mine worked before and i have no idea how much mileage is on it, could it be just worn out to the point that the carrier needs replaced? i've read that if the cones are worn too much, the carrier is shot
also, i'm not sure what oil was put in the back of my rear. could it have an additive in it and cause my posi to not act like a posi?

Don't go jumpin' off the bridge just yet.
Check the tire pressure!
Make sure the rear tires are identical.
Black marks depend on tires.
If so do a simple torque test.
Block 3 wheels, jack up one rear wheel, trans in neutral, torquewrench on lugnut. If it takes 30 ftlbs to turn wheel, posi is good. Percent of goodness ie: 15 ftlbs=50%

well tire pressure is about 26psi and its cold. both are always identical, i make sure of that.
the black marks varied from side to side, but now, one side is completely missing. even from a low 5-10mph punch and spin, the one tire seems to be spinning
