Opinions on Hurst Quarter stick!!! I already did a search
Alright guys, I am looking at finally getting a new shifter for my 700r4 after living with this POS megashifter for over 2 years. I really like the design of the quarter stick and when I did a search to see what everyone thinks about them I got mixed reviews. So if youve had experience with one please help me out. I am looking at getting the non console version for the 700r4
1. How easy is it to bolt in( IE do you need to drill new holes for brackets, cut the console, etc.)
2. How do you like the performence( IE, its easy to hit each gear, and the reverse lock out works)

I like the Quick Silver shifter the best. That's what I use for the TH400 swaps on 4th gens. It fits in the stock console, only have to make two small tabs out of 2" squares of aluminum plate to mount it. Has switches for reverse and all built in.

I've talked to severval people about the Quarter Stick before. I was thinking about getting on or a pistol-grip type.
Some people do not like the bicycle type lever. Same people how ever like the Proratchet by B&M. It's suppose to be a true ratchet type system, but takes 2 hits to make it Park supposely due to GM's long throw between.

I installed a Hurst Quarter Stick in my car and it did take some fabrication. I had to make a bracket for it to mount to and trim away some of the plastic to make it fit correctly through the slot. I don't have any pics of the bracket that the shifter mounts to, although it was basically a 1/4 piece of steel about 14" long and 2.5" wide I found laying around our shop. Heated it with a torch to bend, welded it into place with a few spot welds, and drilled the mounting holes for the shifter.

I like the gated style of a Quarter Stick, great shifter for drag racing.
However, I would go with the similer styled B&M Pro Stick, due to the fact that it has changable gate plates, in case you ever go to a 3 speed tranny, or powerglide, different car, etc..
They are about the same price as well.

Thanks for the pics/info unstable aviator. How does it perform? IE. Does it shift into each gear like its supposed to etc. I have the B&M megashifter and man I hate it.

It works exactly as a Quarterstick should. It is just a cable operated shifter, so the only slightly difficult part was making the bracket to hold it in place.
The indicator next to the shifter doesn't work, but then again I certainly never cared to try and make it so.

Here is a B&M Pro Stick, well actuall the shift ball I got with is said B&M street stick, I couldnt find anything on that tho. Its just like Steve383's, it dont have a reverse lockout on it, i got this one off ebay with this plate, the gears are not right, on the indicator but i dont care about that, works great tho. It came with brackets that fit a camaro and all, all i had to do was raise it up another 3/8. just so the bike handle wouldnt hit.

The street stick was b&ms street version (duh). It does not have the seperate reverse lock out, but other than that it is the same. B&M quit making it in like 1996 I believe.

Thanks for the info, even tho it dont have a reverse lockout, and how ive used it, i still thing it would be pretty hard to accidently hit reverse. Well at least for me.
