carrier removal

I can't seem to get the carrier out of my 10 bolt.
Any thoughts?
bearing caps are off, pinion nut is off, yoke is off. I can't seem to get the carrier to "drop" out...? not a lot to reef on either.

Any tips?
Thanks

First time I did it, I managed to use a pry bar to get it out. Entire time I was doing I was paranoid about the gasket surface.

Then when I was putting in new stuff, I screwed something up and had to remove the carrier after carrier shims were installed and pry bar just wouldn't work. After some choice words and several bottles of beer, this is what I came up with (see attached picture).

Picture pretty much explains it all. The only thing is that I used a typical 50ft rope that I had in my SUV. Rope was from wallmart and when I did it the first time, it just ripped the rope. So I did it again, but made the loop twice around the carrier. Worked like a charm. Next time, I am just getting the rope. Way faster and cleaner.

lol

Yeah, thats a new one to me too lol :-)

Also try putting a wrench from a ring gear bolt to the top of the housing and then trying it wedged like that while using the big ole pry bar.

Sometimes helps, u kinda get a pry on 2 places that way.

later

pry bar is all i used, you don't need to remove the pinion nut to get the carrier out. might want to put the 2 caps back on and run the bolts in just a little so it doesn't fall on you.

weird, I didn't get an email saying there were posts here...

ok, thanks!
So far I tried wrapping a coat hanger around it, then putting a 1" bar through it, and lifting the axle of the ground.... didn't budge.

I'm trying to get to the crush sleeve, to put on a solid pinion spacer, and i'm getting over my head in all this... (hence the pinion nut off).

good idea though, i'll put the caps on, then I can reef on it harder...
I'll see what I can rig up, thanks!

Play it safe with putting the caps on a little ways, the gas pedal just wont feel the same without any toes!

Edit:

Just got a brainstorm, make sure you have a video camera rolling for this though...

Tie a rope around the carrier and have about 20' of slack rope, tie the other end to a pedal bike. Start pedaling like hell and you will either pull the carrier out or do a faceplant, maybe both. Either way it would be some good video!

hmm, tempting, but there's too much snow
maybe to my brother truck, but i'd hate to rip the carrier out onto the cement, and be picking up ring gear teeth...

can't believe I forgot about this thread... geez...

yes, axles are gone.
I've lost my patience for this, tried everything I can... I'm bringing it into a gear center on the 30th and letting them rip it out their way... (banjo spreader, whatever,,,)
