Kick Down Cable
Any advice on replacing the kick down cable on a 88 IROC? I can see the bolt holding it on the tranny, but can't get a wrench/socket on it. Any special tool or maybe I'm going about it wrong.
I'm sure it's been covered, but we all know why I'm reposting the question

maybe a socket and a ratchet with a bend-able head? or a swivel socket?

unbolt the crossmember and lower the trans so you can get a 10mm wrench or socket on it.

Yep, only way to get to it. Just make sure you remove your dist. cap and keep an eye on how close the dist. gets to the firewall.

Not true i did it without lowering it at all it took forever only being able to turn the wrench like a 1/8 turn at a time. and then having to flip it over then flip it back over etc. make sure you have the right size too

I'm going to give this a try before this weekend. Maybe I can heat and bend a 10mm wrench to fit better - maybe like dizzy wrench. I think maybe I'll try it with a brake line 10mm wrench? If this fails, then I'll lower it. Hopefully it's not to tight or corroded.
Thanks,
Dan

i just did it this saturday, used a small 10mm wrench. bit tricky, but worked. you'll have to drop the pan to hook the bottom of the cable, but i'm sure you already knew that. use a rubber tranny pan seal, works much better than the cork ones.
don't forget to readjust the cable after you install it! good luck!

look on 700r4.com's website there is an article somewhere that is helpful their wrench size isnt the right size for mine but everything else is useful. you need two people in order to hook up the cable without dropping the pan
you need them to pull on the actual wire not the sleeve after you hook the hole of the transmission end on the paper clip like hook. after that they need to make sure there is constant tension on it as you lower it back down into the transmission or it will come unhooked.
