ive isolated the problem in my 700r4 as being stuck in second gear. any ideas on wat could cause this? also i changed the filter and fluid today, and i found 2 small plastic pieces. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

your tranny only shifts up to scond or your are constantly in second?

 

the car starts in second, and will not shift out

 

it's a good possibility that the plastic pieces are the washer that holds the reverse input drum off the pump stator. this would allow the reverse input to come out of place and put your 2/4 band in a bind causing you to start in 2nd. contrary to popular belief, shifting into 1st or second with the shifter doesn't mean the band applies. it is only applied in 2nd and 4th wether the tranny is shifting itself or you are manually shifting it.. sounds like your band is in a bind on the reverse drum.
