How do you pull off axle bearings on 9 bolt?

I just recently got an entire 9 bolt posi rear, plus 4th gen posi carrier for a killer deal. Ive already got a good 10 bolt in my car, so Ima take my time and replace the wheel bearings and seals and make it look all puuuurdy too. Anyways, I pulled the axles out knowing that the bearings are pressed on. The thing of it is that I cannot see how to pull them off, or even replace the seals! There is a ring that sits next to the bearing that I thought could be removed, but at first glance I cannot see how to take it off. It looks like its made onto the axle. Does anyone have any pics, or can explain to me how to pull these off? I work at a Chevy dealer so I got access to presses and such, I just dont think many guys in my shop dealt with 9 bolts before. Thanks!

My 9-Bolt is at the shop having the axle bearings replaced. I'll probably pick it up tomorrow. I'll ask how when I pick it up, and then let you know what he said.

A 9 bolt is no different than a Ford 9". The bearing is pressed on and off the axle. You just need a press big enough to put the axle in.

But what I meant was HOW do you pull it off with respects to the ring that appears to be made onto the axle. I can get a pic of it if itll help. I know it cant be pulled off on the lug nut side, so it has to come off through the splined side. But it looks physically impossible to pull the bearing off by going over the ring on the axle, unless it comes off somehow but I cannot see how.

A retainer ring pressed on behind the bearing? Normally you don't save them. On a 9" with the large Set20 bearing which is similar, I just cut the ring then press off the old bearing. Press on new bearing and ring.

If you're taking about the mounting flange that bolt the axle onto the housing, normally an adaptor is slid between the bearing and retainer which is then used as a support in the press.

I got my 9 Bolt back yesterday.

The wheel bearings and retainer ring are pressed on with a setup that looks like a hydralic jack mounted upside down on a steel stand structure that is about 4 feet tall. There is a steel plate which is part of the stand directly under the press that has a slot to allow the axle to pass through and reach almost to the floor.

I hope that helps....

The old retainer ring was cut off to remove it.
