HEY GUYS IM HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY REAR NOW. I GOT MY NEW MOTOR IN AND I CHANGED THE REAR FLUID TO A MOBIL SYNTHETIC AND ADDED THE POSI ADDITIVE. NOW I WENT TO LIGHT EM UP AND ONLY SMOKED ONE TIRE. AS I TORE OFF THE OTHER STARTED TO SPIN A LITTLE BIT. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT. I HOPE ITS NOT THE REAR CAUSE AFTER THAT MOTOR IM BROKE. P.S ITS THE STOCK REAR OUT OF AN 85 IROC WITH 3.42 GEARS.

Your posi either doesnt like the type of fluid and additive or its time to rebuild it.

 

...yet another sythetic problem...
- the sythetic is slick, slick to the point that the clutches in your posi won't grab..... other wise, it's simply worn out....

 

Sorry bout the caps lock. Im at work and its always on. But do u think I should try and drain that fluid and refill with regular stuff? I know its a long shot but is it worth a try? Thanks for replying.

 

I'd try the fluid first. Just run regular gear lube with the posi additive.

 

I went right to regular gear oil with no additive. Now my posi works lol

 

Well i changed the fluid back to regular fluid last night. Now its definatly not whining as much as it was. I didnt try to smoke them up yet but thanks for your help.

 

Its not uncommon at all for people to think that if they put in some so called 'top of the line' synthetic oil and end up with problems like this.


These things are 20 years old and not designed for it!
