Any diffrences in 700r4s through the years?
hi,
ive tried searching and come up with nothing. i was just wondering if the 700r4s had any diffrences throughout the years, i know there were slight improvements, but what does that include, valve body, etc. mainly what i was really wondering was are there diffrences in the gear ratios at all.
thanks
Joe

The ratios never changed. 82-83 and some 84 units had the smaller input shaft, some 87 and all 88+ units have the auxiliary valve body with the extra accumulators. There were additional minor changes every year it seems.

Yes, but nobody cares about V6's.

the new models (seems to be more like 86-1/2)are 30 spline input, have more forward clutch packs, better input sprag and better planetaries. Plus the previous models would burn up very quickly if the converter didn't lock-up, and don't usually have the "auxilary valvebody

If you're looking for a core though, definitely look for an 87+ model.
