what tranny do i have?

i have a stock 86 firebrid s/e

searched but coudlnt find it

700R4 if it's an automatic, T-5 if it's a standard.

700r4...just what i wanted to hear...strength wise could this handle a corvette L98?

It's the same transmission that was used in the Corvette L98.

perfect...so if i did an engine swap to l98 from my 305 i could reuse my tranny without any problems?

You might want to look into some upgrades on the trans if you plan on running hard!

They will burn up just as easy!

The 700R4 is pretty darn weak in stock trim, but as with anything you can put some money in it to strengthen it up.

As long as your not always beating the crap out of it the trans should last a while but if you plan on running hard upgrades will be in line.

They're equal in strength.

Stock transmissions are built to survive average driving behind stock engines. Treat them accordingly, and they last for a very long time. Abuse them and they'll fail.

i would be driving just to cruise...not racing or anything. and i wouldnt do any major mods to it at all. maybe exhaust and simple bolt ons. nothign major.

just a fun car to have in the summer and spring.
