Help - servo won't come out
Is there a special way to take the servo out from a TH700?
I'm installing the Trans-Go kit and I'm stuck.
The servo cover moves around and is out about 1/2 inch (you can see the O-ring) but the thing won't come out. I'm afraid there's something inside and I'm not doing the "right moves".
I've read/searched the posts here but couldn't find much.
Other questions:
1. The tapered plugs, how far in are they supposed to go?
2. What's the right order to install the 4th accumulator? Transmission in the car: spring first, then piston with the 3 legs up or down?
3. How many checkballs go in the transmission? The picture shows one in the VB and another one in the auxiliary VB but 3 C's and 1 "2" in the transmission. What size is the 2?
thanks

first, you have to cut the o-ring to make it easier to get out. use a small screwdriver to get it to move away from the servo cover and cut it or pull it till it snaps. then you can pull on one side to remve the o-ring. the cover should then slide right out. the kit should come with a replacement 0-ring.
as to the other questions:
1: install the tapered plugs flush or just below the surface.
2: if you have installed the plug in the 4th accumulator bore as per instructions, it really doesn't matter. but, spring first then piston with the three legs down. originally it is the other way, but the way i have told you is the way to do it for a firmer 3-4 shift if the plug isn't used.4l60e's use this setup.
3: there are 7 checkballs in the transmission. all are the same size. even the "2". there are two checkballs in the valve body, one in the aux. valve body and 4 in the case.
there is a plastic looking checkball in the case from the factory that is not neede for reassembly. it is a safety feature to make sure the tv cable is reattached. it is not shown in the directions for the transgo kit. i have left it out of every tranny i have built. it prevents the tranny from shifting if the tv cable isn't attatched.

Hey 87zjeff, thanks for the reply.
That's exactly what I did, I cut the O-ring and pulled everything out.
I was hoping I wouldn't have to lower the trans to take everything out but unfortunately that wasn't the case.
Few more questions though.
1. When I took the valve body out, the piston legs were facing the ground. (tranny in the car). The instructions show the legs up...are you saying the legs should go down in order to get a firmer 3-4 shift? Not quite sure what you meant.
2. The instructions for the servo say to install the gold shim under the spring and the picture shows another one after the spring (the original one I guess), does that mean I have to use the gold one and the original one?
3. The kit comes with 6 plastic *****. They're the same size as the original ones in the tranny (0.250). Do you recommend using the ones from the kit or the originals?
Thanks.

on the 3-4 accumulator, assemble it the opposite way it came out just as it shows in hte instructions from transgo(spring in first, then piston w/ legs facing the transmission). i'm used to doing it on the bench so i get the up and down mixed up.
as far as the type of check *****, plactic or the originals, it really doesn't matter. i used the originals.
as far as the 2-4 servo, i can't help you there as i used an aftermarket super servo from fairbanks/superior.

Great, thanks for your help.
Maybe somebody else here can answer my other questions.
Thanks again.

Use the Torlon checkballs I supplied, as they are much easier on the valve body plate, than the steel ones. Follow the instructions that I sent to you as they have "proven" themselves over the years. The main valve body, requires 1 checkball, the forward accumulator 1, the case 4, = a total 6. As for the tapered plugs, how far in are they supposed to go?, 3-5 good wacks with a flat punch & hammer, and make sure that they do not interfere with the valve body plate.

Hey Dana, thanks for the info.
How about no. 2:
"2. The instructions for the servo say to install the gold shim under the spring and the picture shows another one after the spring (the original one I guess), does that mean I have to use the gold one and the original one?"
Any suggestions?

I got it, the "other shim" is actually the "seat" for the C clip so it went in.
So tonight I started the reassembly of the tranny. The servo is in and tomorrow the more stuff will be put back on the tranny.
Dana, thanks again for calling me back to clarify some of the questions I had.
