The tv cable is used to control line pressure in the trans. By changing the line pressure, you will change shift points. However, this is harmful to the trans. Having the cable adjusted anywhere but it's correct location will kill the trans dead in short order.

Simply put the cable all th way back in the adjuster and pull it to wide open throttle, that is how you adjust it.

Push the button, and push the adjuster housing back towards the firewall... Release the button, then slowly push the throttle all the way to WOT... It will ratchet out to the correct position.

for a factory cable. - to adjust shift rpm you have to change the governor. - Summit/Jegs list a governor recalibration kit with different springs and weights to properly adjust shift points.
- as stated, DO NOT adjust shift points with the detent cable. The detent cable only has one proper setting.

The correct way to see if you have adjusted this right is to open the carb or FI all the way (WOT) and see if there is any play in the TV cable, if these is more than a click, about 1/16", then tighten the TV cable to achieve this. Now this setting is very close to being as good as you can get. Now, if you have to change the WOT shift points, you do this with a governor weight & spring change, such as the B&M governor calibration kit.
