Are you asking about a B-W rear, or a 7-5/8"?

They're not the same thing.

How many bolts hold your cover on?

Ok lets do this again.

Fact... 9 bolts on the cover
Fact... Made by Borg Warner
Fact.. The axles bolt in like a Ford 9 inch
Fact... Has rear disk brakes with stupid *** e brake on it

Q... Who makes part for them like carrier, ring and pinion?

OK, it's a B-W then, and NOT a 7-5/8". Its ring gear is actually 7¾", and is listed as such in the parts books. 7-5/8" is a 10-bolt size.

Borg-Warner makes carriers for it. I don't know of anyone else. I don't think new ones are available in the US. There are sources in Australia, where they're made; but finding them in the US is not easy, and not cheap when the do appear.

R&P is available in a few ratios, from a number of sources. Drivetrain Specialists has a few, and I believe Randy's might also have them. A guy used to be on this board alot a long time ago, had a site called 9bolt.com and later diffsolutions.com; but I think he's got out of the business, due to inadequate real interest (lots of talk, no actual buyers), even though the URLs may still work.

....which will be needed if you start putting down good power. - I did the same thing, but only because a solidly built 10-bolt got "handed" to me.

You are thinking about the complete rear axle assembly and not just the internal 4th gen parts???

an 86 10-bolt would be 26 spline axles, which means nothing out of a 4th gen rear would work, unless you were gonna use the later-model carrier and buy axles.
- anyhow, he said he has a 9-bolt, which means complete rear swap. Yes more parts are readily available for a 10-bolt, but you're dancing on egg-shells if you start putting much power to the ground.
- If you can't afford to do it right the first time, can you afford to do it again?
...start searching for a 9" or a 12-bolt, otherwise just stick with the 9-bolt.
