$25 for a 4th gen rear? worth it?

Seems really cheap compared to what i seen what some of you guys paid on here. It has 3.23 POSI w/ Disc Brakes (a given).. needs a pinion bearing, calipers, rotors, pads, hoses and assuming e-brake stuff. 64K.. lemme know what you guys think

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Needs a pinion bearing = needs a gear setup
So here's the "decision matrix":
What does a non-destroyed one of those cost? Most people have been paying $250-300 or so for a COMPLETE one, rotor to rotor.
What does a "gear install kit", plus labor to do a gear setup, cost? Kit is $100ish, setup labor is about 2-3 hours at $75/hr, or $200-250ish. Total cost, $300-350. And that's assuming of course, that nothing else is destroyed; such as, the gears, or the carrier. Add to that whatever is missing: rotors, calipers, pads, lines, etc.
Doesn't sound like a deal to me. Wouldn't be, even if it was TOTALLY FREE.
Which is why it's all but totally free. It's worthless. In fact, its value is less than zero; it has negative value. It's a liability to whoever has it, not an asset.

yea, guy who wants to dump the rear on you said it's only the $25 part... Once you realize that the whine is not only caused by the failed bearing, but what the gearset did to itself as the bearing was destroying itself (the gears are MUNCHED), then sofa's comment makes more sense.
It's *highly probable* that a new bearing won't fix that gear howl.

Yeah I looked.
He's looking for "the greater fool". You've already established that you're not the fool he's looking for. So he's done with you.
Think about it.... it whines so bad ("a little"
.... my a**) he changed it out. It's bad enough that he ALREADY SPENT MONEY to get it out of his car. Which means, he already KNOWS PERFECTLY WELL, it costs less to get another one, than it does to fix that one, because if it was economical to repair this one, he'd have repaired it himself, right? Now he knows that you've also figured it out.
Buying used cars and car parts is like this. Even people who aren't "dishonest", can't be trusted. But there are 2 rules you can take to the bank:
1. You get NO MORE THAN what you pay for; and
2. If it sounds like it's too good to be true, then it IS too good to be true, meaning, it's not true.
Seems like, this whole deal fails the test, all the way around.
Keep looking, there's plenty of them out there. Last time I was in my local junkyard, I saw 2 sitting there; $250 apiece. They're everywhere. People are wrecking LS1 cars at an amazing rate, so for the time being, they're plentiful.
