Which auto trans for my 406?

I am building a 406 to put into my '84 Camaro. Its has speed pro pistons, scat rods, dart heads etc... Anyway it is balanced with an automatic flexplate. So my question is what automatic would be best for my car, and will a stock trans be able to support 400hp? Also, I have a 10 bolt rear out of a v8 trans am will it hold that kind of power or do I need to find a 9 bolt, like the one in my IROC?

Whats the purpose of this car? Is it a daily driver or a weekend warrior? My 92 has a 406 and I'm using a th350 and a 9". A th400 would also work great as would a 12 bolt. I wouldn't use anything other than those parts, unless of course the car is daily driven and sees highway use. In that case I'd go with something that has overdrive and a 12 bolt.

It will not be a daily driver at all, just a fun car. What all is needed to install a th350, will it bolt right in or do things need to be modified? Where can I get a 12 bolt? Any feedback will help.

if you only shootin for 400-450ish motor hp, then a built 700r4 would work fine. 10 bolt rear would be cuttin it close but a 9 bolt in good condition should work good too.

If it's just a toy and doesn't need fuel eco, then you could drop a good re-built T350 in cheaper than a decent 700r4, but it won't have as low of a 1st gear, so a re-gear would be in order for optimum perfomance(probably needed either way for optimum). 400ish hp - if it's a later 28 spline 10-bolt then slip a solid pinion spacer in it during the gear set-up and put a girdle on it, you'll be good to go. - A good 700r4 would be upwards of $1500.

i had mine built for 1000 bucks...thats taking it out of the car and puttin it back in. its built to around 450ish hp/tq or so. another shop around me gives a slightly strong build and they charge 1300. its very strong trans tho.

how many miles on it under what kind of driving behind what motor? Any idea on what parts they use inside it? - Not questioning the trans, just wondering.... I've seen guys spend $1200+ and basically get a shift improved/vette servo'ed stock rebuild.
I'm dropping almost $1000 on parts alone to build one to stay behind a supercharged 305 TPI going into my 'burban.
