T-56 Swap / Yellow Buffer Box

I'm wrapping up a T-56 install on my '88 Trans Am.
My car has a 140mph speedo and came stock with that yellow buffer box.
The car does not have cruise nor does it have a computer (carb now).
The T-56 I have puts out something like 40 pulses/driveshaft rotation.
I have the dakota digital conversion box.

Do I need to use the yellow buffer box to make my speedo work properly? Is this buffer box just for the computer/cruise control? Do I just hook my speedo directly to the dakota digital box?

I've done my research on this but haven't found a clear answer yet. Can someone clarify?

Thanks!

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
All that the Dakota box is, is a pulse divider; it puts out x pulses for every y pulses it gets in. That way, the car never has to know, won't even suspect, that there's anything different about the transmission.

Leave the whole buffer and everything as it is, and just put the Dakota box in between the T-56 VSS output and the car's speedo wiring.

Is the yellow box involved in the stock electronic speedo operation?

if you have no cruise and no ecu, then you can run w/o the buffer box. The buffer changes the signal to the proper signal for the computer to process. I'm unsure as to whether the signal is voltage, ohms, or what or what it's converted to(I'm still researching that one - I need to make an 87ecm read the output in a 95 tahoe4x4)

I hate to answer back with a question but... Why use it if I don't need it?
